St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Minooka (2), the original St. Mary’s Catholic Church was built in Minooka in 1864. It was located just to the east of St. Mary’s Cemetery, near the railroad tracks. Minooka was considered an out-mission and the priest was brought from Morris by handcar. Prior to the construction of the church, Mass was said at the home of George Comerford. In 1869, Father Peter Sheedy was appointed as the first resident pastor. The church was struck by lightning and burned to the ground in 1903. The present church was dedicated in 1904.
