"Let the record be made of the men and things of to-day, lest they pass out of memory to-morrow and are lost. Then perpetuate them not upon wood or stone that crumble to dust, but upon paper, chronicled in picture and in words that endure forever." --Kirkland

William Beal
ca 1837 - Mar 2, 1894

William Beal was born July 27, 1837 in Crawford County, Ohio. On September 7, 1861, he enlisted as a Private in Company K of the 8th Illinois Cavalry at Serena, IL. He re-enlisted on January 1, 1864 as a Private at Culpepper, VA, with the same unit. By order from the war department for disbandment, he was discharged July 17, 1865, at Benton Barracks, MO, as a Private. His pension began on July 23, 1890, for $12.00 per month on certificate number 541920. On October 5, 1892, William applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork lists disease of the brain or Neuralagia and Rheumatism as his disabilities. As per his paperwork, he was living in Verona, was Single/Bachelor, and his brother, Daniel Beal, of Verona, was listed as his nearest relative. Approval for admission occurred on October 14, 1892, registered number 2329.

William Beal died on March 2, 1894, in the hospital at the Home. He is buried at the Sunset Cemetery at the Home.

Note from Ann Logan (William is her 3rd great uncle): William was born 27 July 1837 (source: family bible), probably in Delaware Co., Ohio, as his sister, Ruth Ann, was born there in 1839 (according to her obituary). William is buried in Sunset Cemetery. I have confirmed that information with the home in Quincy.
