Patrick Landers

Patrick Landers was born ca 1834 in Garvin, County of Waterbury, Ireland, as stated on his application. [It is possible that this information may instead be "Dungarvan, County of Waterford," Ireland.] He enlisted in Company C of the 76th Illinois Infantry as a Private in July, 1862. He was discharged at the close of the war in August, 1865. On August 4, 1909, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork states he is a resident of Johnson City, Washington County, TN, and had been a resident of the "The Mountain Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers." He was not married, had no children and listed two brothers: Thomas and John Landers. The following disabilities are listed: Rheumatism, Gunshot injury to left shoulder, and hernia. He was admitted August 16, 1909, registered number 8696; discharged, May 23, 1910; readmitted August 12, 1911 and discharged on April 22, 1912. He received a pension under certificate # 80262, $15.00/month. Patrick Landers is enumerated on the 1910 Federal Census, Riverside Twp., Adams County, page 276, as an inmate of the Home, age 71.
